Unsacred Place

Poem I wrote while visiting Barcelona (April 2008)

Unsacred Place:
The commodification of a sacred place
Long years lived through creases on a woman's face
A place of worship, a place of faith
Sold out, distasteful taste
Wasted washed out, workers walk out
Foreign folks pay out, no prayer mats laid out
I payed out for a look
City landscape, panoramic pancake
God and man handshake
No 'Jesus Walks' song plays
Cathedral with a fan base
Priest with his hands raise
Something is wrong in this day and age
Chapters and books are owned in the name of fair play
Like fair trade, wages are earned
Pay is paid
But it seem odd when 'God' is not the reason for visiting church
Seems as though there is a new tool for measuring ones' worth,
Meaningfulness and worth on this Earth
